WHAT’S THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT A SLEEPLESS NIGHT?
One of the things I hate worst are sleepless nights…but the thought of them becomes more bearable when I can connect them to the good news of Jesus. Fundamentally it seems that God is trying to speak to us through our sleeplessness if we but listen (1 Sam 3:1-9). He may call us into or redirect our ministry in those quiet times (Acts 16:6-10).
Sleeplessness may force us to reach out to wise people for a potential win-win relationship (Dan 2:1-3; 26-28).
Even though Paul lists sleeplessness as one of his adversities of life (2 Cor 11:24-27), it may also be one of the weaknesses he embraces on his way to finding deeper and greater strength in Christ (2 Cor 12:2-10).
So often I believe Jesus speaks to me during times of sleeplessness with wise words about worry (Matt 6:25-27). I am called like Paul, to pray instead (Phil 4:6-7) and to find contentment the God who never sleeps himself (Psalm 121:3-4).
