The best news about Father’s Day is that it can remind us not only of the best of our own father’s (Exodus 20:12), but it can also point us toward Jesus’ Father, who happens to be our Father as well. Jesus learned this lesson as a child (Lk 2:41-50), intimacy and respect (Mark 14:35–36). A special day each week has been set aside for our Father (Gen 2:2-3; Ex 20:8-11).
Jesus learned through prayer to enter into intimacy with the Father (Matt 11:25-27). He invites us to do the same by first coming to Jesus (Matt 28:28-30)…and then leaning to pray as Jesus does (Matt 6:5-12).
We honor the Father by obeying the Son…the gift we give him is our soul.
