If you hate your job and wonder why in the world God has you in the situation you are in, maybe a look at the most hated profession in Jesus’ day may be of help. One of Jesus’s disciples, Matthew was a tax collector and learned first-hand of Jesus compassion for people like him (Matt 9:9-13; 11:19).

On one occasion Jesus shared a story about a tax collector and a Pharisee, complete with a reversal of perspective on whom was justified in God’s sight (Lk 18:9-14).

On another occasion, Jesus visited a tax collector in his home declaring that he had come to seek and to save the lost (Lk 19:1-10).

You may hate your job, but this may be the place where Jesus wants to meet you in a special way…possibly even to save your soul.
