I don’t find it surprising that 74% of all Americans believe that God, an omnipotent being
exists in the universe. However, ever since Adam and Eve, we have been living life in some form
of practical atheism. Adam and Eve hid (Gen 3:8-9), Cain killed (Gen 4:9), the people of Noah’s
time did only evil all the time (Gen 6:5), and the Tower of Babel (Technology) was preferred to
God (Spirituality) Gen 11:1-9.
Would these people say that God is dead? Probably not…But did they live as if God were dead? Absolutely.
Moses was countercultural, ascending Mount Sinai and entering the darkness of God’s
presence (Ex 19:18-20) rather than cowering in fear (Ex 20:18-20).
Elijah addressed his own fears by also ascending the same mountain and meeting with
God (1 Ki 19:4, 9-12).
Centuries later, Jesus took Peter, James and John up a mountain and were met by Moses
and Elijah and the presence of God…the love of God.
The Good News for 2025 is that God is still the Lord of all…if we enter into his love rather than remain paralyzed by our fears.
