How many of us would give everything you own to see someone you loved who has gone over to the other side? For many of us that may be our mothers.
Although Mary outlived her son, I sense that Jesus had that same kind of love and respect for his mother. It is clear to me that her values deeply influenced the life and ministry of Jesus.
First of all, both shared a similar desire for God’s will to be done in their lives (Lk 1:29-38; Matt
6:9-10; Lk 22:41-42).
Mary recognized contrasted the world’s values to the paradox of God’s values (Lk 1:47- 53) as did Jesus (Lk 6:20-21; Matt 5:5; 20:16; 18:1-4; Lk 22:24-26).
Mary treasured and pondered the calling given to Jesus (Lk 2:19) . She stood right by his side in love and compassion even till the end (Jn 19:25-27) as did Jesus for her and for the rest of us.
On this Mother’s Day, I would give Everything I Own to see her…but I pray even mores to see Jesus…the one who truly is my Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
