Today is the first Sunday of Lent and I think nothing could be more appropriate than to spend this time looking at the Praying Jesus, and in particular what we call “The Lord’s Prayer.”
I think we should note that Jesus loved to pray:
• At Solitary Places - Mk 1:35
• On the Mountainside - Lk 6:12-13
• In the Desert - Mk 1:12
Before his death he would wrestled in prayer asking the Father:
• For God’s Will to Be Done - Lk 22:39-44
• For Forgiveness for His Enemies - Lk 23:34
• To Enter God’s Eternal Presence - Lk 23:46
He had a special intimacy with the Father (Jn 10:30; 14:6-10) and he invites his followers
to pray with the same sort of intimacy (Matt 6:9)…and maybe, even, hear God’s words of
affirmation of love and pleasure (Mk 1:9-11).
