Harborpointe community church seeks to be a refuge of hope, a safe place for people of all ethnicities, ages, social backgrounds, political persuasions, and theological perspectives. We recognize that believers of good conscience from a variety of denominational perspectives disagree over many biblical / political / theological points of view. At Harborpointe while we want to always affirm that Jesus is Lord, we also want to demonstrate humility and grace toward those with whom we may disagree.
Our church equally embraces Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives, military and pacifists. No political candidate or agenda will be promoted or demeaned at any Harborpointe gatherings, large or small groups. No political position will be espoused as THE biblical position as long as conscientious believers hold alternative views. Our calling is to change first ourselves and then our society through grace and compassion rather than politics and persuasion.
We call ourselves an inter-denominational church rather than a non-denominational church because we want to join hands with all believers of many different shapes and varieties. We want to emphasize our commonality of salvation in Christ rather than the distinctive concerns that may drive us apart. We have an ‘ancient-future’ orientation that recognizes the value of older forms of worship such as hymn singing, Advent, and Lent and the newest forms of worship that include rock music, dance, and audio/visuals. We value our Catholic and liturgical brethren for all they teach us about contemplation and symbol. We value our evangelical family for their desire to reach out to the lost with a message of salvation rooted in the scriptures. We share with our Pentecostal family a desire for the fullness of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives. We seek to learn from each of these streams what God is asking us to become.
At Harborpointe we want to humble ourselves before Jesus and before one another so that we might truly become his body, his hands and feet in a world that definitely needs to see his kind of church.
