Knowing and obeying God’s will has always had a bewildering and sometimes terrifying affect on m (Col 1:9-10). I didn’t either understand or felt qualified to fulfill many of Jesus’ commands such as:
1) Give All Your Money to the Poor (Matt 9:21)
2) Do Not Resist Evil People (Matt 5:38-40)
3) Take Up Your Cross (Matt 16:24)
4) Deny Any Form of Lust (Matt 5:27-30)
Then the Apostle Paul also had some bewildering expectations:
1) Be All Things to All People (1 Cor 9:19-23)
2) Do Anything While Doing the Right Thing (1 Cor 9:12-13b)
What has helped me sort through what God might expect of me is focusing on Romans 12:1-2:
1) Be a Living Sacrifice
2) Don’t Be Conformed to the World
3) Be Transformed by a Renewed Mind
And finally, I deeply appreciate what Paul said to the Thessalonian church whom he deeply loved (1 Thes 2:6-12):
REJOICE, PRAY, GIVE THANKS (1 Thes 5:16-19)
These words really sum things up for me in a healthy and constructive way.
