As we step into a brand‑new year , many of us are longing to break through to the Other Side—to discover light in the darkness , to see with magic eyes that reveal the presence of God .
This is exactly what happened to the magi in Matthew’s birth narrative (Matt 2:1‑2). Guided by wonder and stirred by mystery, they followed a star that led them toward hope .
Meanwhile, Herod and his circle—though well‑versed in Scripture—missed the message entirely (Matt 2:3‑6). Their eyes weren’t open to enlightenment. Fear had pushed out faith (Matt 2:7‑8).
But the wise men were different. Their prayers opened their eyes to God’s guiding light. Their journey filled them with joy as they arrived at the resting place of Jesus (Matt 2:8‑11). Their prayers overflowed into worship and generous gifts.
In the same way, God invites us to break through to His side—through awareness, through openness, through the simple but powerful act we call prayer .
