In the Bible, people are basically divided into two camps: righteous (Ps 1:1-3) and sinners (Ps 1:4-6). But oddly enough, Jesus found himself and his ministry more connected to the sinner side (Lk 4:16-21)…and that was his understanding of which side God was on as well (Mk 1:14-15).
We find Jesus inviting sinners to follow him (Matt 9:9); eating with sinners (Matt 9:10- 11) and welcoming sinners to eat with him (Matt 9:12-13).
When confronted (Lk 15:1-2) Jesus told stories about the compassionate heart of God (Lk 15:11-33).
Jesus promoted the Samaritan who lived by a code of compassion over the priest and Levite who lived by a holiness code (Lk 10:31-33).
The truth is that whether we like it or not, all of us are sinners (Rom 3:23) and our only hope is the grace or compassion of God (Eph 2:8-9)…a daily source of our salvation.
