One small thought can make a big difference. That is the essence of Jesus’ good news:
“The Kingdom of God is near!” (Mk 1:14-15) The peasant population loved hearing this message loved hearing this message (Lk 4:14-15) but not so much the religious establishment. But when Jesus was kicked out, he expanded his ministry by preaching in the open air, teaching in parables (Matt 13:1-3).
The different types of soil represent the different ways we respond to Jesus’s good news message:
1) Not Connecting at All (Matt 13:4;13:19)
2) Only Having a Shallow Understanding / Commitment (Matt 13:5-6; 13:20-21)
3) Being Short-Circuited by Worry and Worldliness (Matt 13:7; 13:22)
4) Really Getting It in Meaning and Purpose (Matt 13:8; 13:23)
It is time for all of us to attentively listen to the thoughts of God…a thought from God…None of us know the impact that one small thought can make.
