Quite frankly, I think Jesus would really appreciate the sentiments expressed by Joe South in his 1970 song “Walk a Mile in My Shoes.” After all, Jesus challenged all of us to not only walk a mile when solicited, but rather two (Matt 5:39-41).
Furthermore, he entreated his disciples to walk in his own shoes “Come, follow me…”
(Mk 1:16-17) even as he walked a mile in the shoes of tax collectors and sinners (Matt 9:9-10).
Peter challenges all of us to walk in Jesus’s footsteps (1 Pt 1:21) which will create a
flashlight into our own soul, the soul of others, and even into the soul of Jesus (Jn 8:12).
And finally, we are called to walk in Jesus shoes during his last mile (Mk 15:21-22; Lk
9:23).
Walking a mile in other’s shoes brings understanding. Walking a mile in Jesus’s shoes brings healing and ultimately power and strength.
Jesus’s shoes are made for spiritual walking and all the blessings that brings to life.
