“BE ONE”

There is no one who can help us learn what it means to break through to the other side more than Jesus (Heb 7:25; Rom 8:34). His prayers at the cross may serve as some of the best insights into what he considers important in this journey.
The first prayer I would like us to consider in this series is his high priestly prayer in John 17 (Jn 17:1). Here he challenges us to “become one” (John 17:20-21)…which is an appeal consistently made to us (1 Jn 1:1-4).
Jesus always favored relationship over doctrine (Mk 2:27-28), listening to God (Jn 10:29- 30) and examining our own soul rather than passing judgment on others (Matt 25:31-46; 1 Cor 3:10-15; Lk 18:9-14).
Could it be that we are actually called on to listen and be open to those with whom we may currently disagree? Could it be that we actually have something to learn from each other about the mystery of life and relationship to God?
