On this Pentecost Sunday, I want to underscore that busyness is the arch-enemy of breaking through to the Other Side. This is why the longest and the centerpiece of the Ten Commandments is to Remember the Sabbath (Ex 20:8-11).
Conversely, Satan and his minions love to keep us busy and make us work harder and harder (Ex 5:6-9).
Prior to Pentecost Sunday, Jesus invited his disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:1- 5).
David testified to the importance of waiting (Ps 40:1-2; 5:1-3) as did Isaiah (Isa 40:30- 31).
When the disciple gathered in one place on Pentecost Sunday, a breakthrough took place that “amazed and perplexed” all observers (Acts 2:1-12). Although some joked that everyone was joyfully drunk, Peter suggested it was just one of many ways the Holy Spirit reveals our connection to the Other Side (Acts 2:13-18).
Maybe it would be best to sing to God “No Time Left for Anything But You?”
