On Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, many hear these solemn words:
“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Coupled with“Repent and believe in the Gospel.”
Actually, these are two sides of the same coin… Life and Death, Good and bad, Ugly and Beautiful…
The greatest of people always come to experience this dichotomy as did Job in a good way (Job 1, 3, 42) and Solomon in a bad way (1 Ki 3, 11).
But maybe most instructive for us and in our understanding of Jesus’ call to discipleship was the Apostle Paul (Phil 3). He had a Lenten grasp of Christ…a surrender of life itself in order to discover what is really worth living for.
