LEARNING FROM SAINTS AND SINNERS / MODEL PRAYERS FROM AN UNLIKELY PRAYER

4/21/2024 Biblical Irony: 2 Chr 1:7-12

Most of us are sort of a mishmash of both the saints and sinners…and that was the character of King Solomon…both a man of the world and a man of God.
His wisdom was world renown (1 Ki 4:29-33;1 Ki 10:4-9), but he was far more than a
thinker… he was also a doer, builder, a diplomat…and a lover (1 Ki 11:1-3). His thousand wives eventually led him spiritually astray (1 Ki 11:4-8).
Despite this sad conclusion to his life, Solomon had some unusual high points that issued in God appearing twice combined with Solomon’s beautiful prayers.
1st Appearance: 2 Chr 1:1-7
Solomon’s First Great Prayer: 2 Chr 1:8-10
God’s Response: 2 Chr 1:11-12
Solomon’s Prayer at the Dedication of the Temple: 2 Chr 6:1-40
God’s Second Appearance: 1 Ki 9:3-4
People’s Response: 2 Chr 7:1-4
In the end, we are called on to proclaim these life changing words:
“God is good; his love endures forever.”
